 Government   Thu, November 10, 2016 02:55 PM

Washington, DC – Today we celebrate the two victories of Senator-elect Catherine Cortez- Masto and Congresswoman-elect Nanette Barragán. These were two hard-fought races that were won due to your belief and support in our Latina candidates.

We also want to commend Congresswoman Sanchez for having the courage and tenacity to leave her Congressional seat, which she’s held for the last 19 years representing the 46th district to run for the open seat representing CA in the U.S. Senate. She saw an opportunity to give voice to the Latino community in the U.S. Senate and made a bold move by competing for the seat.  We thank her for her hard-fought race and for demonstrating to Latinas everywhere the importance of taking risks and being bold.

We celebrate more diversity in the U.S. Congress with growth in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Black Caucus and Asian Caucus.  We congratulate three new U.S. Senators who represent those caucuses:  Senators-elect Tammy Duckworth, Kamala Harris and Catherine Cortez-Masto and the new Members of the House of Representatives: Nanette Barragan (CA-44), Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Lou Correa (CA-46), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), Ruben Kihuen (NV-04), Darren Soto (FL-09), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-AL), Val Demings (FL-10), Donald McEachin (VA-04), Colleen Hanabusa (HI-01), Pramila Jaypal (WA-07), Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08).

Our mission of increasing the number of Latinas in Congress becomes more important today to ensure we have diverse voices at the highest table of power in the U.S.

We look forward to continuing to work with you to increase the number of Latinas in Congress and to your continued support to help us achieve our goal.
