New York, New York - The Latino Commission on AIDS applauds the decision of President Obama to halt deportations and detentions that tear apart immigrant families. With his Executive Action, the President recognizes the history of the United States of America, to value and honor our nation of immigrants. Today, his actions speak loud to an entire community that had hoped for more than promises. His action will provide relief to millions of hard working immigrants and their families and children.

His decision could never have happened without the incredible effort and community mobilization on the part of students, parents, people of faith, business communities, professionals, and activists who came together to ask for solutions to fix our broken immigration system.

“The Latino Commission on AIDS (as a member of the New York Immigration Coalition, the National Alliance of Latin American, Caribbean Communities (NALACC) and the Hispanic Federation) will continue to advocate for a humane and fair immigration reform at the Federal level and relief in our cities and States for our immigrant communities,” stated Guillermo Chacón, President of the Latino Commission on AIDS
