Federally Employed Women National Training Program (NTP) Schedule of Events and Activities

Washington, DCWith the government of the United States taking direct action to remedy the largest recession since the Great Depression, Federally Employed Women’s (FEW), has stepped to the forefront of building a better trained government work force with their 40th National Training Program. At this critical national juncture, NTP is the premier training experience for women. Nothing could be more appropriate to our national endeavor to restore America’s economic vitality than a well-trained civil service. FEW’s celebrated “Keys to Success” program reflects FEW’s mission embracing training as a critical means to helping more women succeed in their chosen career field.

 

“Keys to Success” training will take place July 20th through 24th at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Florida. This outstanding, cost-effective training program will bring together thousands of women and men from government, industry, and academia for a unique educational and networking experience.

 

Registration is now open. Please note, some key classes to career advancement and entry into the Federal government workforce are filling fast. FEW offers no guarantee of access to late registrants for these classes. Class registration is based on a first come, first served basis.

 

TRAINING SESSIONS—Tuesday, July 21, through Thursday, July 23, 2009. FEW will offer over 125 workshops on timely topics aligned with the fundamental competencies and Executive Core Qualifications identified by the Office of Personnel Management.  This year additional courses have been added that will appeal to members of our Military Services: Diversity in the Military; Protocol for Military and Civilians; Resumes (for military to civilian transition); Retirement Information; and Becoming a Master Mentor.  Training Tracks have been added in the following categories: Executive Leadership, Project Management, Administrative Professional, Science & Technology, Military Connection, and the Federal Women Program (FWP).  Courses are available on EEO for supervisors, alternate dispute resolution, the EEO investigation process, change management, technical project management, public speaking, improving your interviewing and resume skills, negotiation skills, and understanding your federal retirement benefits.  For current information on all courses that are available, visit www.fewntp.org.

 

FIRST EVER – GOLF TOURNAMENT – “FEDS ON THE FRINGE”, Saturday, July 18, 2009, 2:00pm to 8:00 pm, Hawks Landing Golf Course.  Awards Reception following tournament.

 

FEW AWARDS PROGRAM – Monday, July 20, 2009 - 5:00 – 7:00pm. Chapter, Region and Special Awards will be presented.

 

WELCOME RECEPTION & 40th NTP Celebration – Monday, July 20, 2009 - 7:30 – 9:30 pm.

 

OPENING SESSION — Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 am.  Susan Miller will be the Keynote Speaker: “Keys to Success”. Miller, a dynamic motivational speaker, will tell us how to stay positive in a down environment.

 

EXHIBIT HALL— Over 80 exhibitors will showcase their products and services. The Exhibit Hall will be open from 8:00am to 5:30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 21-22, 2009 and from 8:00am to 1:30pm on Thursday, July 24th.

 

COMPLIANCE PROGRAM LUNCHEON – Thursday, July 23, 2009 – 11:30am to 1:30pm – “FEW and Federal Agencies – The Keys to Success.”  A panel discussion will bring together a diverse panel of agency and Federally Employed Women (FEW) officials to discuss the status of Equal Employment Opportunity compliance efforts at all levels. Panelists include: Delia Johnson, Director, Office of Civil Rights, International Broadcasting Bureau (IBB); Larry Beat, Director, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Office of Civil Rights; Thomas Accardi, Director of Aviation System Standards, Federal Aviation Administration; Gail Puckett, EEO Training Manager, Federal Aviation Administration; Sharie Bourbeau, Assistant Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Manpower, Personnel, Training, Education, U.S. Navy; Allie Latimer, FEW’s founding President (1968-1969); Dorothy Nelms, two-time elected FEW National President (1978-1980, 1996-1998). Panelist invited but not confirmed: The Honorable Hilda Solis, Secretary, U.S Department of Labor.

 

FEW FRIDAY CELEBRATION, Friday, July 25, 2009–-participation is restricted to members only. Janet Kopenhaver, FEW’s Legislative Representative, will present an update on legislative accomplishments for FEW this past year. Joining Janet will be Valerie Guenther, District Director for Representative Suzanne Kosmas (FL-D-24), who will give her insight into what we can expect from Congress during the rest of the year.  Presentations by a trio of keynote speakers, Carole Parker, Lisa Jones, and Vernice Armour will reinforce the “Each One Teach One” theme.

The annual NTP, FEW’s major training program, is held each July and is considered the premier training opportunity for women and men.
