San Francisco, CA – Publisher Gracefully Global Group LLC announces the general availability of Good Night Captain Mama, a unique early picture book for children ages three to eight authored by Graciela Tiscareño-Sato. Written in both English and Spanish (subtitled Buenas Noches Capitán Mamá), this book was conceived by a Latina military veteran who served as an officer and aviator in the U.S. Air Force. Inspired by a conversation between the author and her four year-old son when he saw her in her flight suit, the picture book is beautifully illustrated by Ms. Linda Lens whose father Alberto served in the United States Air Force.

The book went to print with nearly two dozen endorsements from the educational, library, military and Latino communities. Here are key comments from those who were first to review.

Theresa Jones, a California teacher, said "Good Night Captain Mama captures the essence of a child's wonder and admiration of his mother’s career, while giving the reader a clear and loving explanation of what it's like being in the United States Air Force. It's especially exciting that my students get to learn this information from a mother's perspective.”

Linda Maloney, author of Military Fly Moms and retired naval aviator added:

“This book beautifully captures the sweet, thoughtful questions our children ask. It also shares the legacy a mom is passing down to her son—a wonderful picture of patriotism, love of country and the love between a mom and her child.”

Dr. Michael Hogan, author of The Irish Soldiers of Mexico and former State Department consultant for the Office of Overseas Schools stated, “This book is a treasure, a wonderful way for a child to learn about flight, about service, and to share in his mother’s life and adventures. The Spanish translation for the English text is a welcome addition. Like many educators who have seen the positive results of dual-language learning, this was a particular delight for me... It also provides a vehicle for children to be proud of their heritage and culture and to see the beauty and interconnections between both languages. More people should know of the sacrifices that Latinos and Latinas have made (and are continuing to make) for the United States; too few do.”

Social entrepreneur Graciela Tiscareño-Sato is a sought-after keynote speaker on leadership, environmental entrepreneurship and innovation. Through live presentations and literature, she brings new positive imagery to the current national conversation about both women in the military and the Latino community.

“I loved serving this nation and wearing my flight suit for nearly a decade,” Tiscareño-Sato “I want to do my part to ensure that today’s young women are not discouraged from pursuing the life-long benefits of serving as military leaders. When our children celebrate the 4th of July and Veterans Day in school settings, images of women proudly serving in uniform, must be front and center. This positive imagery is not commonly found in classrooms, TV shows or news stories today; skewed views of both our nation’s military women, including Latinas, persist. This children’s book, the first in a planned Captain Mamá children’s book series, answers the basic questions of WHY we volunteer to serve.”

A portion of all sales of this children’s book will support women military veterans directly through the work of the Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) training program operated by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University. The program educates and mentors women veterans through entrepreneurship, to pursue self-employment as a post-service career.
