A hilarious and satirical take on the island’s history and the development of today’s “Boricua,” this musical was a smash hit in Puerto Rico when it premiered. Ferrari, a frequently produced playwright in Puerto Rico and co-founder of the distinguished Nuevo Teatro Group, spins tales of the Taíno natives, foreign invasions, and the ups and downs of contemporary life on the enchanted island. In Spanish with English surtitles.
Hugo Medrano has directed numerous musicals at GALA, including Bola~Cuba’s King of Song, Raíces Cubanas I and II, and Candombe-Tango Negro. He was nominated for the 2000 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Director for his work on La dama boba. |
