Washington, DC - GALA continues its 38th Anniversary Season with Living Out / Cama Afuera by Lisa Loomer.  Directed by Abel López, the play will be performed in English with Spanish surtitles and will run April 24 through May 18, 2014 at GALA Theatre, 3333 14th Street NW, Washington, DC 20010. GALA Theatre is one block from the Columbia Heights metro station on the Green line. Parking is available at a discount in the Giant parking garage on Park Road, NW.

In Living Out, Ana, an undocumented Salvadoran mother of two, is hired as a nanny by Nancy, a rising entertainment lawyer and new mother who is challenged by fulfilling both personal and professional goals. These two working mothers make difficult choices in order to provide a better life for their children. With laughter and compassion the play explores their shared humanity and the differences wrought by race, class and immigration status.

“I was drawn to Living Out,” states López, “because it addresses an issue that affects working women of all races, class, and economic status in our community – entrusting the primary care of their children to someone else. Lisa Loomer sensitively captures the dynamics of family life, cultural perceptions and differences, and the daily challenges and negotiations faced by women trying to find balance between family needs and working outside of the home.”

Living Out will be performed Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm. Press Night is Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 8 pm.  A dessert reception with the artists will follow hosted by Erika Gonzalez, NBC Channel 4 Anchor and Reporter.

Community Day is Thursday, April 24 with special $10 tickets. Student matinees are May 2, May 9 and May 16, 2014 at 10:30 am. For more information about the Student Matinee Program, please call Alina Collins Maldonado at 202-234-7174.
