Baltimore, MD - The William & Lanaea C. Featherstone Foundation created a high-level, strategic plan through support from a $56,000 IBM impact grant. The grant provided expertise from IBM consultants to help the award-winning nonprofit strengthen their programs to better serve Latino and underserved communities.

The Foundation has gained wide-spread, community recognition for its work as a result of the grant. In January, the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce awarded the Featherstone Foundation one of their highest honors: “Nonprofit of the Year.”
With guidance from leading IBM experts, the Featherstone Foundation is better positioned to attract increased financial resources from sponsors. The Foundation recently attracted funding from the Consular Section of the Embassy of Mexico, Rent-A-Center and State Farm® to further promote its work in the Latino community.

“I’m fortunate to have IBM’s support as we prioritize our long-term objectives and organizational goals, said Lanaea C. Featherstone, Foundation President and Open Society Institute Baltimore Community Fellow. “IBM’s strategic partnership helped us create a new mission and vision statement and bolster our internal operations so that we can continue to provide quality, life-changing programs for underserved populations.”

"IBM Impact grants - like our strategic planning grant to the Featherstone Foundation - mirror the type of services that IBM provides its business clients," said Diane Melley, Vice President, Global Citizenship Initiatives, IBM Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs.  "These grants help our nonprofit partners to more effectively and efficiently manage their organizations so that they can better serve communities which depend on them."

Later this year, the Foundation is slated to deliver a series of new, innovative workforce development programs in partnership with PNC Bank that will better serve the Latino Community, the City’s and our nations’ fastest growing demographic. The Foundation also has plans to add new members to its Board of Directors.

IBM Impact Grants provide consulting expertise and software specifically designed to support educational and nonprofit organizations in their efforts to serve their communities. The diversity of these grants allows IBM to deliver services and technology that meet the ever changing needs of the not-for-profit sector.
