Washington, DCThis year, Deal Middle School’s 6th grade has spread its work on homelessness in our city throughout the academic year. This includes lessons and assemblies around educating Deal students about the nature of the crisis, who is affected by homelessness, and what are some avenues of action. This week the 6th graders took this drive for action to heart. The students organized a demonstration in front of the Wilson Building to encourage the Council to include the homeless as a protected category in legislation.

According to sources at Deal, approximately 100 of the youngest Vikings made their voices heard and had their placards read. "As a community we should be incredibly proud of their work. Further, we should see this as a harbinger of a more active, civic-oriented District of Columbia Public School graduate who can master the ropes of the political process" said James Albright, Principal.
