Letter to Black Lives Matter and The Black Community from Latinx Civil Rights Organizations

Los Angeles, CA - Dear Black Lives Matter Movement & the Black Community,

We write today in mourning of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the many other Black people that have been killed at the hands of our country’s white supremacist justice system.

Our collective organizations have fought for civil rights and social justice for Latinx and other marginalized groups for decades, including our on-going battle against the colorism and racism in our own community. Part of that fight includes standing with the Black people of this country against racism, hate, police brutality, and systemic oppression. We stand firm in our message: tu lucha es mi lucha.

Today, our organizations refuse to be silent and instead are recommitting to centering antiracism and anti-hate in our collective social impact work. As Dr. King and his closest aides and successors became strong supporters of the United Farm Workers movement and Cesar Chavez, we are standing with the Black community and Black Lives Matter.

Together, the Latinx and Black communities, along with allies, can fight for progressive, systematic change and equity. We urge Congress, Mayors, Governors, former Presidents, University Presidents, Religious Leaders, Foundation Heads, Business Leaders and Union Leaders to stand up and take action in supporting the Black Community.

In Solidarity,
