FLORIDA –

Marco Antonio Quiroga has been named Program Director of Our Fund’s Contigo (‘With You’) Fund in response to the recent tragic events there. Quiroga is responsible for strengthening agencies and grassroots initiatives that advance Latinx and LGBTQ causes in these two Central Florida communities of concern. Senator Marco Rubio’s re-election bid has garnered the support of the Senate Leadership Fund in the amount of $15 million. Rubio faces a Republican primary challenge from businessman Carlos Beruff on August 30th. Rubio will likely face Democratic Representative Patrick Murphy. Murphy’s family is funding an independent political donation to raise his visibility in the amount of $1,000,000.  RealClearPolitic’s average of recent polls show Rubio leading Murphy 47 to 41 percent.

ILLINOIS –

New America Alliance CEO Pilar Avila recently testified before the Illinois Senate Committee on Pensions Investment. Avilar focused on advancing Latino and other minority business investments. The Senate Pension Committee Chairman is Senator Kwame Raould and committee member Senator Iris. Y. Martinez. NEVADA –

Catherine Cortez Masto, the Democratic nominee for Nevada’s Senate seat, has surged to a tie against Joe Heck, the Republican nominee.  The new poll from Suffolk University shows Cortez Masto and Heck neck and neck with about 37% of the vote among likely voters. PODER PAC, a Latina for Latinas political action committee, has endorsed Catherine Cortez Masto. www.poderpac.com .

Among other finds of the Suffolk University poll:

          Hillary Clinton [D] edges ahead of Donald Trump [R] 44 % to 42% for President.

          55% of voters are Alarmed about the Presidential election while 25% are Excited and 11% are Bored.

          61% of those screened approve of background checks on gun sales, while 27% oppose it at this time on a Nevada ballot initiative this fall.

          48% would approve of regulate marijuana similar to alcohol, while 43% would vote against the ballot initiative.

New York –

          TEXAS –

Gallup has released a new poll that shows Senator Ted Cruz (R) of Texas is now viewed unfavorably by a majority of Republicans and all Americans in general. Prior to the Republican convention, Cruz was viewed favorably by 59% of his fellow Republicans. The latest poll shows that support has dropped to 43%. Among all Americans, Cruz has dropped from 36% approval to 29%. Cruz’ failed Presidential campaign is an obvious black eye.  His refusal to endorse Donald Trump is noted as particularly small minded in his downward spiral as he seeks to return to the U.S. Senate representing Texas. Cruz lost the majority of Texas voters during its Republican Presidential primary, emerging only with a plurality of support.
