NATIONAL MONTH FOR RENTERS

 Community   Mon, September 11, 2017 02:26 PM

Washington, DC – With recent data showing that 25 million Americans, including nine million children, face housing insecurity each year, Make Room Inc. will shine a spotlight on the critical issue of struggling renters and affordable housing in America at a press conference on Tuesday, September 12, on Capitol Hill.  The event will highlight bipartisan House Resolution 475, designating September 2017 as “National Month for Renters.”

House resolution cosponsors Reps. Bruce Poliquin (R-ME) and Denny Heck (D-WA) will participate in the press event to shed light on the eleven million households nationwide that spend more than half of their income just on rent, while making sacrifices such as forgoing food, healthcare, and other necessities.

Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) will introduce a companion resolution in the Senate this week.

Rising country music star Kane Brown, who recently partnered with Make Room, will also speak at the press conference and participate in a Congressional briefing with families impacted by the current rental housing crisis.  The goal of the briefing is to humanize the issue, reinforce the importance of placing affordable rental housing on the national agenda, and advocate for bold solutions that will end housing insecurity.
