Washington, D.C., The National Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce (NPRChamber) will host a lunch briefing on Capitol Hill, Thursday July 26th, entitled, “Economic Opportunities for Puerto Rico & U.S. Hispanics,” along with Puerto Rico’s representative in Congress, Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón.

While 2017’s hurricane season dealt a devastating blow to Puerto Rico, the island’s economy has been shrinking for more than a decade.  Speakers will address the current status of the island, policies that will drive Puerto Rico’s future economic growth – as well as impediments that have stalled development - and will further delve into the necessity of and opportunities for private sector investment.

Along with Congresswoman González, FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel will provide opening remarks regarding the Commission’s role in assessing the communication needs of Puerto Rico, as well as the recent lessons learned and current initiatives that will help Puerto Rico to rebuild and better prepare for the next major storm.

“While it is unfortunate that the millions of American citizens in Puerto Rico have had to suffer through one of the worst economic crises this country has seen, we are lucky to have a unique moment in history that has provided an opportunity for policymakers and the investment community to join in setting forth a plan to propel Puerto Rico into a period of long-term economic growth,” said Justin Vélez-Hagan, executive director of the National Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce.

Additional speakers include Puerto Rican appointed officials, infrastructure and private capital investors, experts in government technological solutions, and the SBA, among others.

The event is free and open to the public.  Lunch will be served and seating is limited.  Media is welcome to attend: info@nprchamber.org.  Event registration can be found here.
