Rockville, MD - The 2018 Organizing Committee of the Maryland Hispanic Gala (MHG) proudly announces that after five years of serving students in financial need, the event's growth, popularity and positive impact in communities throughout the State of Maryland dictated that the Montgomery Hispanic Gala becomes Maryland Hispanic Gala.

The Annual Maryland Hispanic Gala will take place at  The Fillmore Silver Spring on Thursday, September 13, 2018, 7pm-11pm.

"Through the years we have granted scholarships to youth that have attended twenty-six different colleges and universities throughout the State of Maryland. With the continued support of our loyal sponsors, the work of our organizing committee and statewide community participation, we have officially become Maryland Hispanic Gala," said Lorna Virgilí, President, Maryland Hispanic Coalition, Inc.

The Maryland Hispanic Coalition, Inc. launched the Montgomery County Executive Hispanic Gala in 2013. For the first time in the State's history a sitting County Executive supported a fundraising initiate that was geared to assisting Latinos in financial need attain a higher level of education. In 2015, the scholarship opportunity was made available to all qualifying students from diverse communities throughout the State of Maryland, not only Latinos. By 2018, the Gala had become Maryland's Marquee Hispanic Gala, thus, Maryland Hispanic Gala.

"The success of the Montgomery Hispanic Gala is unquestionable. The scholarships it has provided has changed lives and will benefit generations of families," said  Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot . "I am thrilled that these efforts will now be spread across our great state and help students from all over Maryland realize their dreams of a college education. The Maryland Hispanic Coalition is a perfect example of how Maryland's diversity is our strength and how by working together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous future for our children."

"After years of dedicated efforts to expand opportunities for students across Montgomery County and the state, I am thrilled to see the Gala's transformation to the Maryland Hispanic Gala," said  Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz . "These are exactly the steps we need to take to embrace our state's growing diversity and support the future of Maryland's Hispanic communities."

"Like a magnificent colorful butterfly, the Montgomery County Hispanic Gala is transforming into the Maryland Hispanic Gala. For years the Gala has been providing scholarships to talented and deserving students in need of financial support to assist them in reaching their full potential. Thanks to the efforts of the organizing committee, its leadership and the dedicated supporters of the Gala, students across the state will continue to be the beneficiaries of the Gala's efforts and experience the opportunity to achieve their dreams," said  Maryland State Delegate Benjamin F. Kramer.

The Maryland Hispanic Gala is a 501c(3) and 100% volunteer-run organization that kicks off National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed from September 15 to October 15 to recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture.

The annual gala gathers over 1,000 attendees on event evening.
