Washington, D.C. - The Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) announces today that it has opened a search for a new President and CEO. After 38 years of extraordinary leadership, LAYC's current President and CEO, Lori Kaplan will step down following the identification of her successor.

"The new President and CEO will build on the incredible legacy, immeasurable impact and trailblazing vision of Lori Kaplan. The Board is deeply grateful for Lori's unparalleled dedication to LAYC, her visionary leadership and the incredible passion with which she has led the organization," said Antonio Marquez, Chair of LAYC's Board of Directors. "Her leadership has enabled LAYC to make an immeasurable impact in the lives of youth and families all across the Washington Metro Area."

Founded in the late 1960s, LAYC's mission is to empower a diverse population of youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood through multi-cultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youths' social, academic, and career needs. Under Lori's leadership, LAYC has grown from a small grassroots recreation center to an award-winning, nationally recognized multi-service agency that now serves over 4,000 youth and families through youth centers, school-based sites, and public charter schools in the District of Columbia and Maryland's Prince George's and Montgomery Counties as the Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers (MMYC).

"I have been inspired every day by the thousands of young people who remain resilient and strong despite obstacles and barriers. I have loved working with each of them. Every day, I'm inspired by LAYC's dedicated and determined staff who come to work filled with love and commitment to the youth, their families, and our LAYC mission," said Lori Kaplan. "I am grateful to our Board of Directors, our foundation and corporate leaders, our government officials and partners, and our individual donors who have made LAYC strong over the years and who have had confidence in me.  This has truly been a collaborative effort."

"Lori leaves LAYC with a talented and dedicated staff, and in an excellent position of strength and well positioned for future growth. The entire LAYC family is grateful for Lori's contributions to LAYC and her legacy will continue in the lives she has impacted all across our community," Marquez added.

To continue and expand LAYC's important vision of ensuring that all youth pursue their dreams, reach their goals, and acquire the skills and self-confidence to live a life of purpose, connection, contribution, and joy, LAYC is seeking a visionary leader with a demonstrated passion for the organization's mission and values, deep expertise leading the strategic direction of an organization, and a proven ability to build and sustain successful relationships with funders and partners.

LAYC's Board of Directors has retained LeaderFit to manage the search. Lori will continue to lead the organization until her successor is in place and will be involved during the transition.
