Washington, DC – The Honorable Janet Murguía, President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), will keynote the Latino Leaders Luncheon Series™ hosted by the Latino Leaders Network (LLN) on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C. She will also receive the Eagle Leadership Award, which is presented as a symbol of vision, achievement and commitment to the Latino community.
“Janet Murguia is a dedicated and effective leader fighting to ensure equality, dignity, and respect for our community everyday,” said Mickey Ibarra, founder and chairman of LLN.
Janet Murguia has devoted her career in public service to opening the door to the American dream to millions of Latino families. She is one of our nation’s most prominent civil rights champions. She was a key advocate while she served as Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs at the White House for President Clinton. For the past eight years, she has successfully led NCLR, the largest national Latino civil rights organization in the US.
The program will feature tributes from Senator Bob Menendez and Congressman Xavier Becerra.
“It is only fitting that two of our most powerful voices in Congress, Senator Menendez and Congressman Becerra, join us to pay tribute to Janet Murguia’s many achievements," added Mr. Ibarra.
The featured community partner will be the D.C. based Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School, a comprehensive adult education program recognized nationally and internationally as a successful model for transforming immigrant individuals, families, and communities. Sponsors include Anheuser-Busch, Southwest Airlines and Bank of America.
The Latino Leaders Luncheon Series™ consists of quarterly events convened most often in our nation’s capital to provide a platform for prominent Latino leaders to share their personal story of obstacles overcome to achieve success and to provide a network opportunity for elected officials, policy makers, corporate executives, opinion leaders, community activists, industry experts, and political insiders.
