Washington, DC - Teri Galvez is on the DC Republican ballot today, April 3, as a candidate for Republican National Committeewoman. She was recently named as Co-Chair of the Mitt Romney for President Campaign. The principal role of the Committeewoman is to serve as one of the 168 voting members of the Republican National Committee. This would be an important milestone as Galvez would be only the third Latina, joining National Committeewoman Lily Nunez of Colorado and Zoraida Fonalledas, from Puerto Rico.
Teri Galvez has been a part of the Republican Party for over 30 years, serving as the Vice Chairman of the DC Republican Party for 8 years. She is running with two principal goals:
- First, expanding the party by attracting more young people as well as minority groups particularly Hispanics and African Americans.
- Second, providing a voice at the national level for the Republican Party to highlight the opportunities for a broader appeal to these constituencies, and representing the local party’s positions effectively.
Teri was born and raised in Modesto, California. Her parents worked hard to create a quality life for her. Her father, from Mexico City, came to America under the government’s ‘bracero’ program to work on the railroads. Her mother, born American, came back to the U.S. at 23 after living in Mexico for her first job in a cannery. Teri’s first job after college was with the California Republican Party during the 1984 Reagan Campaign. She attended his Inaugural in Washington, DC in 1985 and has never left.
Teri is an entrepreneur. She is President of Paradigm Event Management and she and her husband are developers of “La Fuente” a collection of 21 vacation homes in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico She is the volunteer Executive Director of The Miss DC Scholarship Organization, a preliminary to Miss America. She is also on the Board of Voices for America’s Children, Advisory Board of the DC Young Republicans, and served 8 years on the Advisory Board of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship and volunteers with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington DC.
