Washington, DC - For the first time ever, the Latino GLBT History Project (LHP) will host "Mujeres en el Movimiento" a unique social event for Latina Lesbians in Washington, D.C. in celebration of Women's History Month. “As a Latina, I want to see more of myself reflected in our Community’s cultural scene,” says Esther Hidalgo, Host Committee Chair and LHP Board Member. “I hope this event will encourage capable, wise Latinas in the community to contribute to LHP’s important mission to preserve Latino gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) history and growing agenda to increase the visibility of the diversity of GLBT Latinos/as.”
“Mujeres en el Movimiento” will be an outlet GLBT Latina and women of color in the District have been desperately waiting for, which will provide networking opportunities, a space to meet other women and the opportunity to share stories of achievement and leadership among our community. The Latino GLBT History Project will honor Laura M. Esquivel for her groundbreaking local and national leadership as a Latina advancing both the GLBT and Latino communities in civil and human rights advocacy.
